19 Years Ago: The Day Daniel Agger Became a Red
January 12, 2025

Daniel Agger

The transfer window for January is now open. When it comes to winter signings, Liverpool has historically brought in some excellent players, and Daniel Agger is one of them.

A standout for Denmark as well, Daniel Agger's heart seemed to truly embody that of a Scouser. It's hard not to feel that way when thinking about his time at Liverpool.

Exactly 19 years ago today, on January 12, 2006, Daniel Agger's move to Liverpool was confirmed. I believe he can be described as a man who dedicated his footballing life to the Reds.

What Agger gave to Liverpool is truly remarkable—his dedication is rare and exceptional.

Agger was a clever center-back, and being a left-footed player added a unique edge to his style. He possessed a powerful left foot, and I have a particular fondness for this image. I often recall the times when Agger struck long passes with his left foot; it felt almost like a rocket launch, powerful and precise.

When it comes to powerful kicks, Steven Gerrard is synonymous with those bullet-like long-range shots. Agger and Stevie's kicks had different styles, and that contrast was part of what made them so captivating.

There was a time when reports emerged suggesting that some big clubs were interested in Agger. As far as I recall, the club in question was one of the giants of Spain. However, Agger responded with, "I’ll stay here as long as Liverpool needs me," and that statement truly captured the hearts of the Kop. His loyalty was something that resonated deeply with fans.

Daniel Agger made 232 appearances for Liverpool in official matches and scored 14 goals. However, his contribution and the passion he demonstrated for the team cannot be fully captured by just those numbers.

During his time at Liverpool, Agger battled through injuries time and time again. Each time, he stood up, recovered, and returned to the pitch stronger, and those moments are unforgettable.

Agger is truly a legend of the Reds, and it's fitting to refer to him as such. His commitment to the team, his resilience in the face of adversity, and his outstanding performances have solidified his place in Liverpool's storied history.

Wataru Endo Named Player of the Match, Also Captains Liverpool in the Historic FA Cup
January 11, 2025

Even with limited opportunities to play, I have great respect for Wataru Endo, who continues to deliver outstanding performances whenever he takes the field. In the historic FA Cup, often referred to as the world's oldest football tournament, Endo worked tirelessly as a center-back.

In the FA Cup third round, Liverpool faced Accrington and secured a 4-0 clean sheet victory. As someone tasked with playing center-back, keeping a clean sheet must have been especially gratifying.

Now, who was the standout player in this match, contributing the most to the team?
The fans’ choice was none other than Wataru Endo. Congratulations!

When it comes to Endo playing as a center-back, it might be more comfortable for him in a three-back system, but he has shown impressive adaptability even in a four-back formation. Above all, Endo remains committed to solid and reliable play when positioned on the backline. Risky moves can often be fatal for a defense, so I believe his approach is the right one.

On this day, Wataru Endo also took up the role of Liverpool captain after Trent Alexander-Arnold was substituted off. This is truly something to be proud of.

I could never have imagined, in the past, that a Japanese player would serve as the captain of Liverpool.

According to LFC, the player who received the second-highest support from fans after Endo was Trent Alexander-Arnold. In third place was Federico Chiesa. Interestingly, both of them were among the scorers in this match.

Of course, I’d love to see more of Endo playing as an anchor. However, under the current circumstances, increasing his playing time is the key priority.

Endo has already earned high praise locally in Liverpool and across England. Surely, more opportunities will come his way.

I hope he continues to leave a positive impression and prepares himself well for the next match.
